Every year, we eagerly anticipate the announcement of each paint manufacturer’s Color of the Year. We pay especially close attention to the Sherwin-Williams® announcement, and we are thrilled to share that this year’s color does not disappoint.

What is the Sherwin-Williams® 2024 Color of the Year?

Upward (SW 6239) was recently named the Sherwin-Williams® 2024 Color of the Year. This calming shade of light blue reminds us of the breeze on a sunny day or a clear blue sky. It is the ideal shade of blue to create a calming, relaxed atmosphere in your home and spark positivity without screaming, “baby boy’s nursery.”

What rooms should be painted with Upward (SW 6239)?

This light blue hue is remarkably versatile, and able to be used in many different areas of the home for interior paint projects. We personally think it’s ideal to create a:

  • Relaxing bedroom
  • Spa-like bathroom
  • Inviting kitchen

We even see it being used on kitchen cabinetry or a kitchen island to create a bright, clean aesthetic. Paired with white and marble finishes it is absolutely beautiful.

What colors pair well with Upward?

Sherwin-Williams® recommends pairing this breezy blue with other nature-centric colors like:

  • Snowbound
  • Drift of Mist
  • Gale Force
  • Tricorn Black
  • Honeydew
  • Palm Leaf
  • Antiquarian Brown

How to Complete Your Tranquil Home Aesthetic with Upward

If you want to create a complete sense of tranquility in your home, try pairing Upward with the following interior design tips.

  • Natural Textures: Tie in materials like wood, stone, or bamboo, as well as indoor plants, to bring the outdoors in. Rattan, wicker, and other woven pendants are a great way to compliment Upward in any kitchen, bedroom or living space.
  • Choose the Right Finish: Matte and eggshell finishes tend to absorb light and create a softer look.
  • Minimize Clutter: A clutter-free environment promotes relaxation. Consider decluttering and organizing your space for the new year.
  • Reconsider Your Lighting: Lighting is a huge factor in your home’s atmosphere and the way your paint colors appear. Use soft, warm lighting for a cozy ambiance. You might also add dimmers to control the intensity of your lights.

A Painter’s Take on Upward

Work from home is here to stay and as a result, we are seeing more and more homeowners try to create a sense of calm in their homes. One way to accomplish that is to bring the outside in with natural textures and colors that you would see out in nature. For that reason, we think Upward is a fantastic choice. We eagerly anticipate bidding farewell to dreary gray walls, even if only temporarily.
